Howdy? I believe things are working out fine at the farm.
From my interaction with some farmers in recent time, I found out that some farms operate without any record to show the trend of happenings at the farm (I must say, I was surprised).
Farm record is the proper documentation (that is, writing down neatly and coherently) of all the activities taking place at the farm. The documentation shows details of major activities happening at the farm. Such activities includes –
- Financial activities – Details of expenses and income of the farm
- Bird activities – Details of bird stock-ins and mortality (inventory record), productivity (egg production record), consumption record, etc.
Keeping a proper record of activities on the farm is important and necessary for the growth and development of the farm. The following are some of the benefits of keeping record of the farm activities –
- It helps to keep track of major activities happening in the farm on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
- It provides valid basis for the farmer to compare farm activities and outcomes on a monthly-by-month and/or year-by-year schedule
- It assists the farmer to measure effectively the profitability of the farm operations to know if profit or loss is being accrued
- It guides the farmer (investor) in making effective and efficient decision(s) for the farm growth and development.
If you are not keeping a record of activities on the farm and your purpose is to make profit (not just for pleasure and family consumption) now is the time to start. Don’t delay it any further.
Are you keeping a record but it is not properly documented, please, improve on it and make your documentation proper, such that it can be trusted to guide your decision making when the occasion arises.
Do you need more help in ensuring your farm record is effective to assist your farm operations and development? Comment below. It is our pleasure to oblige you in doing this.

It’s your gal and it’s all about poultry farming on this space.
